Unprecedented Versatility and Design - The Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3A very small and stylish mini laptop from Lenovo, the Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3 differentiates itself from other similar notebooks through its elegant lines and eye catching design. We are going to put our brand new Lenovo product through our extensive tests and see if it really delivers what it promises, because we know that a small and cute design is not all our readers want to know about mini laptops. So we are going to put it to different tests and see how it behaves. Before we start, keep in mind that this notebook costs just $339, so its performance and agility will reflect this price. However, it behaved better than expected. Let's see! First of all, we started testing its central processing unit (CPU) and found that the small Intel ATOM N455 processor, capable of a speed of 1.66 GHz, working on a front side bus (FSB) of 667 MHz and with an L2 cache of just 512 KB, managed to impress us with its agility. Although by far not the most powerful processor in the mini laptop category, the Intel ATOM N455 manages to get a good 7 out of 10 points. The Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3 started on the right foot, so let's hope it finishes the same. Next, the graphics processor unit (GPU), an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150, managed to deliver fair quality on the laptop's 10.1 inch SD display and was able to output clear and bright images at a maximum resolution of 1024 x 600 (the maximum supported by the small yet stylish display). We give it 6 out of 10 for fair performance. Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3's hard disk drive (HDD) is large enough to satisfy most of our needs. At a size of 160 GB, we managed to store all our documents and most of our movies. However, a larger hard drive would have been a great addition. The bad part is that the HDD spins at just the industry minimum of 5400 rotations per minute (RPM). This has an impact on the overall performance of the laptop and greatly influenced our rating. We give the hard disk drive just 5 out of 10 points for its size. The Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3 comes with a few useful features like the BCM 4313 BGN Wireless network card, has the industry standard touch pad pointing device, but does not have a finger print reader like many of its competitors in the mini laptop sector. 1 GB of DDR3 SDRAM working at a frequency of just 667 MHz is fair, but far from competitive. The Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3 is a small, stylish laptop that manages to deliver fair performance. Taking into consideration its small price ($339), we consider this mini laptop to be a very good deal!
