Why We Love the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560 LaptopOur first impression after receiving our brand new Lenovo IdeaPad Y560 laptop was that of a stylish and elegant notebook that is not too powerful. When we say not too powerful we mean powerful enough to meet almost all its users' needs, except gaming needs. As we would soon find out, this is not the case at all. This is one of the most powerful laptops from Lenovo and certainly a winner when it comes to playing the most recent games. However, since we know our readers are not interested in many opinions but in hard facts derived from our extensive tests, we began to test the laptop. As you are accustomed by now, we started by first testing the brains behind the muscles in the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560, the central processing unit (or CPU for the more experienced of our readers). We were happy to find an Intel Core i3 370 M processor inside the elegant notebook. The central processing unit works at a frequency of 2.4 GHz and on a front side bus (FSB) of 1066MHz. We were also thrilled to find it used an L2 cache of 3 MB. This processor passed even our most resource intensive multi thread tests without ever giving us any trouble. We proudly give this CPU the well deserved 10 points out of a maximum of 10. Next in our tests came Lenovo IdeaPad Y560's memory, which we suspected was potent and helped the processor do so well in testing. And we were right, the 4 GB of DDR3 RAM memory (PC3 8500) were working on a high frequency of 1066 MHz. It managed to pass all our memory tests without any problems and we proudly award it 10 out of 10 points. Next, the graphics processing unit left us very surprised. The laptop comes with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 working with 1 GB of dedicated video memory. This is a very potent video card and was able to output bright, clear, crisp, and sharp graphics on the 15.6 inch HD display (featuring the innovative LED backlight and Anti Glare technologies) at 1366 x 768 pixels maximum resolution. Although the video card is very potent, the display lacks what it needs to take advantage of all its power. Therefore, the duo (video card - display) receives only 9 out of a maximum of 10 points. The hard disk drive, although large enough to satisfy any need (500 GB), rotates at a maximum speed of 5400 rotations per minute, impacting the overall agility of the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560. We were very pleased and even surprised after testing the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560 notebook. It exceeded most of our expectations and, aside the below average display and slow hard disk drive, it is one of the best choices available on the market today.
