The New Stylish and Versatile Lenovo IdeaPad Y560d

The moment we opened the box we knew that the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560d will deliver what its manufacturer promised. Not only is this laptop elegant and stylish, but emanates an aura of power and agility. We felt like this notebook will certainly make it in our top 10 laptops of the year list. However, since we are not here to judge a laptop by its looks, we started testing its components one by one. And I must admit we were very impressed by the way it handled all our tests. Here is what the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560d contains and how its different hardware components behaved when put to our ultimate tests.

First of all, we tested the central processing unit of the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560d. We were surprised to discover a very potent and innovative Intel Core i7 720QM processor working at a rather low frequency of 1.60 GHz. If this was not an i7 processor and its front side bus was less than its 1333 MHz, we would have given it just 9 points. The large, 6 MB L2 cache was a very pleasant surprise as well. So, taking into consideration the speed at which this laptop managed to pass even our most intensive tests, we gladly award it 10 points out of 10.

Next it was time to test Lenovo IdeaPad Y560d's memory. We were already suspecting that the processor alone could not have achieved such high scores. It must have been helped by the RAM. And we were right! We found the 4 GB of high speed 1333 MHz DDR3 random access memory (RAM) PC3 8500 potent enough to satisfy even the most exigent of users. And the possibility to add another 4 GB of DDR3 RAM was simply too much! We immediately gave the memory its well deserved 10 out of 10 points. And, of course, as usually, something must disappoint us... The large 500 GB hard disk drive is enough to accommodate everyone's files. However, its slow, 5400 rotations per minute speed is affecting the agility of the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560d in a bad way. We can only give it 8 out of 10 here.

Next came another big surprise. The Lenovo IdeaPad Y560d comes with a highly potent ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 graphics processing unit working with no less than 1 GB of dedicated video memory. Very impressive! However, it can only output a maximum resolution of 1366 x 768 on the 15.6 inch HD widescreen display. The LED backlight and, most of all, 3D technology is what bailed the display out of a small rating. Instead, it receives 9 out of 10 points.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y560d behaved incredibly well in all our tests thanks to its agile processor, high speed DDR3 RAM, and powerful GPU. However, the slow 5400 rpm hard disk and low resolution display are clear weak points!
