Why We Love the Lenovo ThinkPad L512

Our first impression regarding the Lenovo ThinkPad L512 was that of a bright, elegant laptop designed for white collars. We felt that its stylish design was a way to mask its lack of power and resources. However, its technical specs sheet said otherwise in the shop. So what could we do but buy and test it? We spent $749 in an instant and hoped to have spent it on something that was actually worth this much money. Once we got home, we got the laptop out of the box and started putting it through our tests to see how it does. The results were surprising and we are very pleased to let you know that our $749 were very well spent! Here is what the Lenovo ThinkPad L512 contains and how the notebook behaved in our tests.

We started by testing the single most important part of any IT system: the central processing unit (CPU). Lenovo ThinkPad L512's CPU is a powerful Intel Core i5 520 M processor, which works at a high frequency of 2.4 GHz. As if this wasn't enough, the processor also runs on an L3 cache of 3 MB and a front side bus (FSB) of 1066 MHz. As it was expected, the CPU graciously passed all our tests with very good ratings, giving us the chance to give the laptop its first 10 out of 10 score. Let's see if the other components are as good as the processor.

The second thing we tested was the memory. Although the Lenovo ThinkPad L512 comes with just 2 GB of random access memory (RAM), it uses the DDR3 PC3 10600 type, which is able to run at a frequency of 1333MHz. And users can always upgrade and buy a second stick of 2 GB DDR3 RAM to complement the power range. We are proud to give the second 10 out of 10 score to this nifty little notebook! However, since you can't have everything right, there was bound to be a problem somewhere. And that problem is unfortunately the hard disk drive. With a size of just 160 GB and a speed of just 5400 rotations per minute, the HDD has a negative effect on the agility of the Lenovo ThinkPad L512. It can only receive 7 out of 10 points here.

The nice 15 inch HD display, benefiting from the Anti Glare and WWAN technology, receives clear and sharp graphics from the potent Mobile Intel HM 55 Express chipset, which uses the innovative Intel HD Graphics technology. Another 10 out of 10 points earned by the Lenovo ThinkPad L512!

Overall, our brand new Lenovo ThinkPad L512 notebook managed to pass all our tests with brio, thanks to its powerful central processing unit and high speed RAM. However, the hard disk drive lacks in both speed and size, being a noticeable issue.
